Biography

John Edmund Miller was born on November 29, 1866 in Toodyay, Western Australia, Australia, son of John Edmund Miller (1833–1875) and Caroline Eliza Hannett (1843–1903).

In 1953, married Janet Harriet Loaring at Perth on 14 Dec 1902.

Sandalwooder and prospector settled at Burracoppin where his wife ran a small store during his absences. While the rabbit proof fence was being constructed they ran a boarding house. John also worked a small gold mine. [untitled, Friends of Battye Library files.] In 1910 and 1917 John Edmund Miller of Burracoppin labourer lived there with Janet Harriet. In 1925 and 1926 John was a storekeeper there living with Janet and James Thomas a clearer at PO and Lionel Jack Russell Miller contractor. On July 18 1934 at the residence of her sister Mrs L Breckenridge of Mt Lawley, Janet Harriet wife of John Edmund Miller of Burracoppin, and mother of Maud (Mrs W Discombe), Winifred and Bernice, aged 54 years, sister of Mrs LBreckenridge ( Mt Lawley) ACR Loaring (Bickley), FJ Loarding (Bickley). OA Loaring (South Perth) and AJ Loaring (Victoria Park). [The West Australian, 19 July 1934] In 1936 John Edmund Miller miner lived at Burracoppin. [electoral roll] with Maude Mary Discombe. Janet 1880 Cornwall, migrated in 1901 per Perthshire. John died 13Sept 1953 at Nedlands aged 86, “formerly of Burracoppin, dearly loved husband of the late Janet Miller and beloved father of Bid (Mrs. S. Turner), Winifred (Mrs. D. Anderson), and Bernice (Mrs. O. Blight), also Lionel (deceased), fond father-in-law of Syd, Doug and Geoff and loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren, aged 86 years.” [The West Australian, 15 Sept 1953]
