Biography

Maud Mary Miller was born about October 27, 1910 in Burracoppin, Western Australia, Australia, daughter of John Edmund Miller (1866–1953) and Janet Harriet Loaring^[1].

Maud (14) married William Henry Discombe (25) (born in 1899 in Katanning, Western Australia) on September 5, 1925 in Northam, Western Australia. [West Australian, 10 Sept 1925] It was a “shotgun wedding” as she was only 15. In 1930 he became unemployed and she returned to live with her parents at Burracoppin, to help her mother run her boarding house. He returned but treated her badly. A child was born in July 1931.

He went to Meekathurra and was unemployed and paid no maintenance. Divorce granted in July 1935. [West Australian, 11 July 1935] In 1936 John Edmund Miller miner lived at Burracoppin. [electoral roll] with Maude Mary Discombe. Maude was living at Burracoppin, Northam in 1937 and married secondly there in 1939 to Sydney John Turner. [reg No.85] The death notice of her father in 1953 identifies her as Bid (Mrs S Turner). [The West Australian, 15 Sept 1953] Syd was a farmer at Lutterworth near Burracoppin, and William and Leonard grew up on the farm. Maud married thirdly Montague Reginald Lee, no issue.

Maud died on February 9, 1988 in Safety Bay, Western Australia, aged about 77 and Montague on 6 Feb 1994 at Mandurah..
