James Miller Died in Military Service during the United States Civil War.
James Miller, Jr. was born in 1831 to James Miller, Sr. and Barbara Jones. He was orphaned by age two and was cared for by his mother's Jones family until he turned 21 years of age. Through that Jones family and through his marriage, he was linked to many Bulloch Co GA families. He married Sarah Williams in 1848 and they had at least three children by 1853, Barbary, John and Margaret. He acted as jury man, estate appraiser and will witness in the mid-1850s, and was the coexecutor of the wills of two of his uncles (ILER and GIBSON) in early 1861 and in late 1863.
He enlisted as a 3rd Lieutenant in late 1861 and was 1st Lieutenant by 1862 in Company K of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 47th Regiment. He was reported as sick in Savannah GA in early 1863 and he made his will in late 1863; that will was
probated in late 1864."[1]
