Biography

Melvina Miles was married 3 times and had children with each husband. With her first huband, who was her first cousin, she had a daughter. With her second husband she had two kids, and with the third and final husband she had seven children. She had a total of 10 children, but outlived them all except her first born child, Elvira, and this is documented in the 1930 newspaper obit for Melvina, and the link is listed on this page.

Her second husband was brother to her (Virginia) sister in law's husband.

Her third husband was the former husband of her (Adeline) sister in law. Both Virginia and Adeline were Melvina's first cousins, as was their brother, her first husband.

The above is the WILL of Jabez Timms 1801-1855. It states his NEPHEW is William MILES, and his wife/widow Elizabeth is to care for William as long as she can. William Miles would be the son of Jabez's sister, Cinthia Timms 1816 NC-1853 TN (m. William M. Miles 1806 NC 1854 Wilson Co, TN). In the Will, William Miles is the only Miles mentioned. Both William M. Miles and his wife Cinthia Timms Milies would be dead prior to Jabez Timms. Melvina Miles-5617 was alread married to Jabez F. Timms, the son of Jabez Timms and Elizabeth. Melvina and Jabez (Jr) married 1854, the year before his death in 1855.

This will is important because it establishes the fact that Melvina Miles and her husband Jabez F. Timms (Jr) were first cousins.

Jabez, Jr.'s wife, Melvina is mentioned because she had taken some property for her daughter, Elvira, the daughter and only heir of Jabez F. Timms (Jr). Property he had inherited from his father, Jabez Timms 1801-1855.

Melvina's Obit in newspaper, appeared Oct. 1, 1930, named her daughter (Mrs. Newt Willis) as surviving, and stated Melvina Meadows had died in Davidson County Hospital on Monday, and that would be prior to the Wednesday , Oct 1. 1930 publish date, so she would have died on September 29, 1930. Buried at Hampton Burial grounds in Bull Runn, TN.

• After added sources to Alexander Franklin James, there was no evidence of a marriage to Malvina. He would have been around 15 years old to marry and have Elvira at age 16. Not likely. Removed him as a husband. (Mutimer-76 00:15, 13 May 2023 (UTC))
