Françoise was born about 1682. She was the daughter of Charles Melanson and Marie Dugas.[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Francoise, aged 4, was living with her parents, Charles MELANASON, aged 44, and Marie DUGAS, aged 38, and six siblings: Isabelle [sic] aged 13, Charles, aged 11, Madeleine, aged 9, Marie, aged 7, and twins, Pierre and Ambroise, aged 10 months. They owned 1 gun and were living on 6 arpents of cultivable land with 20 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 hogs.[2]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Francoise, aged 10, was living with her parents, Charles MELANCON, aged 46, and Marie DUGAS, aged 42, and her seven siblings: Charles, aged 18, Madeleine, aged 16, Marie, aged 12, Pierre, twin, aged 8, Ambroise, twin, aged 8, Claude, aged 5, and Jeanne, aged 3. The family owned 4 guns and was living on 35 arpents of cultivable land with 20 cattle, 25 sheep, and 12 pigs.[3]

She was counted again in Port-Royal at age 14.[4]

She was the wife of Jean Cyr son of Pierre Cyr and Marie Bourgeois. Jean was born about 1671 in Port Royal. They were married around 1698 in Acadie. Jean and Francoise lived with their family at Beaubassin.[5]

She passed away 12 June 1720 and was buried at Beaubassin. [6][7]

Research Notes

Removed Françoise Melanson (Melanson-412) as mother of Sarah Baptiste Cyr born 1709 in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania and married to Isaac Santee. The dates and places of birth and death for Françoise Melanson correspond to Françoise Melanson who married Jean Cyr. Stephen White, in the Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes, does not list a daughter named Sarah Baptiste for this couple and there are no indications that they went to Pennsylvania in 1709. Did not find any documented evidence in Ancestry or reliable family trees linking Sarah Baptiste Cyr to Françoise Melanson. Cormier-1939 01:52, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

HI, Julie, that you for noting this. Do you know you can make this type of change yourself? On a PPP profile you can still edit, just not add relationships. You have contributed so much to Acadians and we know your research is solid. Your sharp eyes are very much appreciated! Cindy

Melanson-412 and Melanson-24 appear to represent the same person because: Same place of birth and death. Same date for death. Was married to a Cyr since a daughter Sarah Baptiste Cyr was connected to Melanson-412. Removed this daughter born 1709 in Pennsylvania. Stephen White does not list a daughter by that name for the couple Françoise Melanson and Jean Cyr.

Melanson-210 and Melanson-24 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same approx birth year

Same parents. This child was originally connected to the wrong Melanson family (see discussion). There IS a Francoise Melanson in the Charles Melanson family.
