Biography

Clyde Meadows was born in Appalachia, in Virginia.

Clyde S. Meadows, was a talented guitarist and singer who had been a member of the West Virginia Coon Hunters from the late 1920’s until the 1940’s. The West Virginia Coon Hunters were part of the infamous Bristol sessions.

At the time of the Bristol Recordings, Clyde was living near Bluefield, West Virginia along with his fellow band mates. The band mates were: Fiddler W.A. “Bone” Broyles, fiddler Fred Pendleton, additional guitarists are Fred Belcher and Jim Brown. The mandolinist is Vernal Vest; the banjo-mandolin is played by Regal Mooney, tenor banjo by Dutch Stewart, and five-string banjo by Joe Stephens.

At the time of his death, he was listed as a State Highway Worker for the State of West Virginia and lived in Walkersville, West Virginia. No further information was found about him continuing a music career after his recording session in Bristol.

The Bristol Sessions were created by Ralph Peer and took place in Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia from July 25th until August 5th, 1927. Some of Country Music's most important families recorded during these sessions. The Bristol Sessions are considered to be the start of modern Country Music and the recording industry.

These sessions were conducted by Ralph Peer for the Victor Talking Machine Company and resulted in the discovery of several important artists, including Jimmie Rodgers (often called the “Father of Country Music”), the original Carter Family (often referred to as the “First Family of Country Music”), and others.
