Biography

born in New Zealand

I have created a lot of New Zealand profiles for people who are not directly my family. If they are YOUR family, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll add further information, or if you are a WikiTree member, make you the profile manager.

If you need help with finding free, online, New Zealand sources for ancestors, please ask and I’ll try to help.

For me, genealogy is more than a list of people and dates; it's a study of the stories of those who created us. Many other websites have errors in my family information and I would like WikiTree to be the definitive version, with well-researched and sourced stories.

My major interest is early New Zealand history (1842-1920), especially the early European settlers of what became Nelson Province. I'm also fascinated by what I can find out about women's history. Women are often unrecognised heroes, and finding and sharing their stories is a privilege.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Fiona by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Fiona:

Have you taken a DNA test? If so, login to add it. If not, see our friends at Ancestry DNA.

Thank you *very* much for finding the death record for Robert Richmond! Hopefully that will help others connect to this family group of Scottish emigrants.

I did make an honest search to find where I left off and I checked your comments but I guess I missed it! ;-)

I see now why, I did a CTRL+F search for "SJ" but I'm listed as "posted by "You"  :-p

so, congrats again! And keep up the stellar work!

Gidday from New Zealand Fiona ! I have read a lot about your kind assistance to others, and wondered if I could 'Jump on the Bandwagon !' ( cheeky old Guy !) I just joined and registered with WIKI today. The reasoni did so, was that in the course of my Research into my Paternalo Family Line .. The GRAHAMS.. I came across an Article thus :-Asked Genealogy Help Oct 19 2018 , by Anonymous Graham. "Peter Cameron about David Graham born 1675 min Canonbie etc. The Anonymous Graham goes on to say :-" I tracked my Family through some Relatives that are Scholfields and Grahams, from Manchester, and linked it back to a David Graham from Dumfriesshire.....etc"

Well, it just so happens, that my Gr.Gr.Grandmother was HANNAH SCHOLFIELD 1824-1897, who was the wife of GEORGE GRAHAM 1823-1891 ...my Gr.Gr. Grand-dad . Are you willing/able to advise me , just how to leave a Message for the perpetrator of this Question, as I am sure we are related , and I would love to share with him/her . Thanks in advance Oh Helpful One ...Best Regards, Bruce Graham of Tauranga , New Zealand .

Hi, Fiona!

Thank you for your participation in October 2020’s Source-a-thon. Your contributions helped us to clear over 57,000 profiles that needed sourcing. This makes our Shared Tree all that much better.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks, Lar. I’ll add the other children of this family and might investigate the English grandparents if I can find what looks like reliable sources. (Henry Skipper Ryland - London solicitor)

Hi Fiona,

I would like to suggest a profile be added to the New Zealand project for management. Scales-417 who was a famous cartoonist. What do I need to do to have him added to the New Zealand project management list?

If you look at McIndoe-85, you should see the category to copy.

Hi Fiona, thanks for your pointers about the migrants on the Skiol 1844. I can identify in Wikitree descendants of 2 families from the St Pauli and 4 families from the Skiol in South Australia.

Hi Fiona, thanks for your understanding and support re. the "Source Sitch" on G2G. I have a really hard time understanding why it's so hard to make those changes. Did you see any leaders contributions to the conversation? I don't know who they all are, and that just points to another issue; we're spread out all over the place and finding what one needs is harder and harder. We'll do what we can do. Thanks again!
Hi Fiona, How rude! I was unwittingly removed from the New Zealand page. For whatever reason, I did not receive notification of your message saying I would be removed If I didn't fill in a short survey?! Being that I didnt receive the first message, what a shock was it to then receive a message from Deb booting me out. I'm a stay at home mum with time to occasionally research and update profiles. You will see that I was particularly active in Aug/Sept. I'm also a 6th generation New Zealander, so my family and extended family make up a good portion of those you seek to improve. In fact I have personally added a significant amount of information and profiles onto wiki tree from scratch, which i feel is a valued contribution. I'd appreciate if you added me back on thanks!!

Kia ora Fiona,

I am a very busy Historian/Negotiator of Treaty Settlements. My most recent contributions have been profiles of Settlers that I encounter in my actual work. I have a couple of big deadlines ahead of me, but by next month and over the Summer holidays I'll have some time to contribute more. Noho ora mai, Pare.

Hi Fiona,

Please remove me for now. I am spending my time between Auckland and Samoa for work and one of those places has. def. less broadband access than the other... which means I am quite busy when I am back home. Cheers Hans
