Isabella was born on 14 September 1850 at Overgate, Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland[1]. She was the daughter of Donald McLean and Helen McKinnon.
At the time of the 1851 Scotland Census she was living at Overgate, Dundee, Forfarshire with her mother Helen (30) and four siblings - John (15) who was a shoemaker, Mary (12) and Angus (6), both scholars, and Murdoch (2)[2]. She was aged 6 months.
Isabella (McLean) Bennett migrated from Scotland to Colony of Victoria.
She emigrated with her mother and five siblings leaving Liverpool on 5 December 1857 on the ship, Merchant Prince[3]. She arrived on 17 March 1858 at Melbourne and went with her mother to Geelong.
She married Samuel Bennett in 1872[4] probably at Williamstown.
Isabella died on 7 February 1886 at 22 Twyford Street, Williamstown[5]. The death notice in The Age (Melbourne) dated 8 February[6] said:
BENNETT.—On the 7th February, at her residence, 22 Twyford-street, South Williamstown, Isabella, the beloved wife of Mr. Samuel Bennett, of the Victorian Railways.
Isabella was buried on 9 February in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown[7].
Research Notes
It is unknown as to whether Isabella had any children. I have not found any birth registrations for her and her husband during her years of marriage, so I assume not.
