Biography

Elizabeth was born 19 Jan 1857 in Hendricks County, Indiana to William McBee and Elizabeth Poland. ^[1] In 1860 & 1870, Mary Ellen was living with her parents and siblings. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1877, Elizabeth had a daughter by the name of Stella May McCaslin, but no marriage record has been found for Elizabeth and a McCaslin. In 1880, Stella was living with her maternal grandparents in Indianapolis and Elizabeth is not found. ^{[3] [4]}

About 1880 (based on the birth of their first child), Elizabeth married Samuel Cline. They had 2 known children:

• Sarah Elizabeth (Cline) Slusher 1881-1940
• Emma N (Cline) Phillips 1885-1951

By 1900, Elizabeth and her daughter Stella were living together in Indianapolis at 453 W Washington. Elizabeth was working as a cook and Stella was working as a dishwasher. There is a Robert Bowman lodging with them. Elizabeth's birth was listed as Jan 1860 and that she was married and had been married for 28 years. She had 5 children and only 3 were still living. This would seem to indicate she was married about 1872 before Stella was born, but again, no marriage record has been found yet. ^[5]

On 22 May 1905, Elizabeth married Thomas Francis Grinley in Marion County, Indiana. ^[6] Thomas passed away a little over a year later in 1906 and Elizabeth herself passed away 12 Apr 1919 due to exhaustion and carcinoma of the uterous. She was buried in Mount Jackson Cemetery in Indianapolis. ^{[7] [8] [9]}
