Biography

François Marion was born at L'Assomption, Québec on 27 Jul 1781 to Antoine Marion and Monique Tellier. Baptism took place at L'Assomption-de-la-Ste-Vierge the same day.^[1]

François Marion was born and baptized on 27 July 1781 in L'Assomption, son of Antoine Marion and Monique Tellier.^[2]

François Marion married Louise Martel, minor daughter of Jean Martel and of Marie Chaput, both deceased, on 24 Sept 1804 in L'Assomption.^[3] Louise Martel's tutor was Louis Chaput, who gave his consent to the marriage via Jean Baptiste Chaput, uncle of the bride, present at the wedding.

François married Louise Martel (daughter of Jean Marie Martel and Marie Louise Chaput) at L'Assomption-de-la-Ste-Vierge on 24 Sep 1804.^[4]

He was a servant with the North-West Company in Quebec from 1816-21.^[5]

Louise passed away in 1821.^[6]

François joined the Hudson's Bay Company and served as a blacksmith at various locations throughout Rupert's Land (Red River, York Factory, Norway House), becoming a freeman at the Red River Settlement in 1834.^[5] He eventually remarried to Angelique Deschamps dit Moreau (daughter of Baptiste Moreau Deschamps and Charlotte Laplante).^[7]

He passed away at St. Boniface, Red River Settlement on 27 Jul 1863, at the age of 82. Burial took place at St. Boniface the following day.^[8]
