Biography

Francesca Mangiameli is born around 1896 in Corleone, the daughter of Leoluca Mangiameli and Francesca Paola Cutropia, who married early in 1895. She is named after her paternal grandmother.

On the SS San Giovanni, sailing from Palermo and arriving 1 August 1913 in New York, are these passengers who were born and last resided in Corleone:

166/16: Leoluca Mangiameli, 41 (b. 1872), leaves his wife Francesca Paola Castro (actually, Cutropia) in Corleone; connected with a bracket to his daughters in lines 17-18. They are bound for Chicago, joining his son, Antonino Mangiameli. Leoluca was in Texas 1883-1898. He is 5’5”, has brown hair and blue eyes.

167/17: Francesca Mangiameli, 17 (b. 1896), leaves her mother, the same person, and is going to her brother, the same contact. She is 5’2”, has brown hair and eyes.

168/18: Rosa Mangiameli, 16 (b. 1897): has a line through her name, indicating she did not sail

169/19: Angelo Castro, 23 (b. 1890), leaves his wife Concettina Mangiameli in Corleone. He is going to New York, where he has been from 1909-11, and is joining his brother Giuseppe Castro. The address is illegible. He is 5’3”, has brown hair and eyes.

170/20: Biagio Liggio, 26 (b. 1887), leaves his mother, Maria Rosa Terranova in Corleone, connected to his wife in line 21. They are going to New York, joining his sister Carmela Liggio at 333 E. 106th St. He is 5’5”, has brown hair and eyes.

171/21: Maria Gaetana Lo Curto, 19 (b. 1894), leaves her mother-in-law, the same person, is joining her sister-in-law, as above. She is 5’2”, has brown hair and eyes.[1]

Francesca marries Liborio Mannina, son of Pietro Mannina and Anna Maria Sangiorgi, who is also from Corleone, on 11 January 1914 in Chicago, Illinois.[2]
