Biography

Sir Max Edgar Lucien Mallowan CBE (1904-1978) was a British archaeologist, who specialised in ancient Middle Eastern history. He was the second husband of Dame Agatha Christie.

He was born Edgar Mallowan in the district of Wandsworth in 1904, the son of Frederick Mallowan and Marguerite Duvivier.^[1][2]

Following the death of Agatha Christie, Max Mallowan married Barbara Hastings Parker in 1977.^[3]

He died in 1978 in Wallingford, aged 74.^[4] He was buried in the churchyard of St Mary's, Cholsey, alongside his first wife.^[5]
