On 16 June 1873 he married Hester Cecila Jacobs in the Dutch Reformed Church of Victoria West in Victoria West.^[2]

He died on 10 December 1930 at Louisvale in the Kenhardt district at the age of 89 due to old age and senile decay. He was to be buried at Louisvale.^[3]
