Betty was born in 1909 In Edinburgh, Scotland. She married Harold Niven in 1935. The couple had 3 sons together. She died in 1993, her place of residence given as Woburn and the Daily Telegraph published an obituary on 16 January 1993. The obituary makes mention of her husband Harold, sons Peter, Colin and Alistair and also her father, A W Mair.
