William was born on 11 October, 1906.[1] He was the son of Alexander MacDonald and Esther Cameron, and brother of Alexander James MacDonald and Hester Ann MacDonald.
He served his apprenticeship with the Highland Railway. He joined the National Union of Railwaymen in April/May 1926. Age 19. He was an Apprentice Fitter at that time.
In 1925 he was a witness at the marriage of his brother Alexander James MacDonald to Catherine Bella Rettie.
He went to sea and was an engineer on the S S Middlesex.
He took ill while at sea and was put ashore at Wellington, New Zealand. He died there on 14 June 1929, aged 22.
The burial took place on 17 June 1929. (Section - PUBLIC 2, Plot 342L, Record 72555)
On the headstone of his parents (Tomnahurich Cemetery, Inverness) it shows that William died on 14 June 1929 and was interred in Karori Cemetery, Wellington, New Zealand.
