Thank you for your commitment to the England Project and its goals in 2023! Together we are making English WikiTree profiles the best they can be!
I'd like to share our end-of-year 2023 Newsletter. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading about what we have achieved in 2023!
On behalf of all the England Project Leaders, we wish you a peaceful, productive and enjoyable 2024!
It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:
•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future
You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.
On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!
Yes, I want to continue as a Scotland Project Member. Currently, I am not participating on any teams as I am not able to be as involved as I had been, due to personal matters. It is my hope that in the not too distant future I can become more actively involved again. I am spending about 10 hours a month at present. I think the SP does an amazing job and have no recommendations.
Thanks for replying. We've currently got you listed as a member of the Medieval and Arbroath teams and we're very grateful for any contributions you make to these profiles. Like all the projects, we're very short of pre-1500 qualified members :-)
On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!
The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our formal annual check-in with you.
Are you happy to with your current project team choices? Would you like to join any other teams?
Also, we would really like to hear which team is currently your highest priority. If you are a member of more than one team, could you please rank them from highest priority to lowest? Thank you! If you don’t see yourself as being part of a team, please let us know.
We also welcome any feedback on things you would like to see the project do more of in the future.
I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.
On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again for all you do and we look forward to you continuing to be a part of our collaborative and fun Project!
Thank you for all the work that you have done for the England Project. As you have not responded to our recent check in, I presume that you wish to leave the project. I hope that you will want to re-join us sometime in the future. You can do this by responding to our G2G post: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1516540/is-2023-your-year-to-join-the-england-project.
On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!
I'd also like to share our annual Newsletter with you. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading a bit about what has gone on in 2022 and what our Project has achieved.
The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members every 6 months just to make sure everything is going well. There's no need to reply to this message unless you have something you'd like to let us know about (e.g. if you would like to change your team choices or provide other feedback). We will be in touch with you again in the middle of next year when we do our annual check-in with project members.
On behalf of all the Leaders, I wish you a peaceful and productive 2023.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
Hi Pamela, Where do I find information on the Declaration of Abroath project? Is the (Registrum de Aberbothoc) the same? It lists some Lydalle (sp. var.) men. Thanks!
Beth: Lol...I was just getting ready to respond to you when your last message popped up. If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch. Cheers, Pam
haha thanks for being available! I'm exploring the Lydalle (sp. var.) men John and William are listed in the Abbey Register. Some researchers think that de Soules was also known with the surname Lydalle - based on him being Lord of Liddesdale (with its sp. var.). Wikipedia doesn't offer any clues in their articles on William II de Soules or John de Soules. In 1452 if not before, Lord John de Lyddale possessed the Barony of Braidstane (Broadstone) in Ayrshire which subsequently passed to the Montgmery and then Hamilton families. The reason I'm curious is that William Little was among a group of men on Island Mahee, County Down in the 1630s as recorded in Graham's muster roll. With the Montgomery, Hamilton and others connected both in Down and Ayrshire, I wonder if William Little could have been William Lydalle or some form of that surname. Would you suggest some reputable resources for me to explore on this/these families and their lineages? Thanks ever so much!
I'm not sure how familiar you are with Scottish sources, but there are some excellent ones out there.
1. For starters (and my apologies if you are familiar with this site), try Internet Archive. Do a search on the names you mentioned (e.g., Internet Archive, Liddle [or spelling variants] family) and various texts show up, such as:
Genealogy of the Liddle Family (https://archive.org/details/genealogyofliddl00giff)
History of the Little Family (https://archive.org/details/historyoflittlef00cart)
Most of the genealogical texts that Internet Archive offers are 18th and 19th centuries, or earlier, but the site has a vast library.
3. Another must review source is Balfour Paul's many volumes of The Scots Peerage (full access is available through Internet Archive).
4. Take a look at electricscotland.com, as well.
5. Also, Cokayne, G. E. (1932). The Complete Peerage of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom, Extant, Extinct, or Dormant. London: The St. Catherine Press. Again, multiple volumes available through Google Books, FamilySearch, or Internet Archive.
Thanks so much. I've been using all but the 2 peerage books and gengophers over the last decades when exploring my Scottish ancestors. Gengophers is awesome - just started exploring there! Thanks again!
On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the project's goals over the past year. Every English profile we improve helps!
The England Project Leaders are currently doing our six-monthly check-in with all project members.
Are you happy to with your current project team choices? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?
We also welcome any feedback on things you would like to see the project do more of in the future.
I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.
I am spending most of my time in Scotland these days, so I do not feel that I can make any meaningful suggestions. My experiences with the England Project have been positive, but I am immersed in the Declaration of Arbroath project, so I am not (for the time being) involved with any England Project teams.
It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!
This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.
In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.
We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:
If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general
We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.
Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!
Sincerely,
Amy Gilpin
on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders
RE: Hamilton-29224 I should not have stopped to have dinner. I had already dug up some information that puts doubt even on his father with one saying Walter, another saying Walter's brother Thomas, and another saying Walter's father John. That latter variant would result in two sons of John named Thomas, which, not unheard of (especially if by different mothers) but not that common either. I ended up disconnecting his parents and writing up some research notes.
I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We've achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.
As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.
Are you happy to stay in your current project team(s)? Which team(s) are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?
Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?
Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.
It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.
First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?
Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?
Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. Thank you for all your work on English Profiles and in particular your work in Northumberland and Bio Builders Teams.
These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice, or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the Project Leaders for everything you do.
Lizzie: Almost done with another pre-1500 bio/unsourced Northumberland profile, volunteering as a trailblazer, and working on the WT newsletter. Still enjoying being part of the Northumberland team. Unfortunately, I haven't the time to do much with Bio-Builders and suggest that I be removed from the team to make way for another who can contribute more fully. Thx, Pamela
Marty Acks will be leading the Musty Dusty 2020 Clean-A-Thon Team again this year. I hope you will consider joining us again or for the first time. It is coming up again in 4 short weeks from April 24-26.
I am just checking in with you as a member of the Northumberland Team. We are entering the last 8 days of the England regional go Green Challenge reducing the suggestions, unsourced and unconnected numbers. On the 13th the Northern Region were in the lead for the challenge with drop of 16,728!
As your regional cheer leader - I am encouraging everyone to go go go
Congratulations on your Pre-1500 badge, I do apologize for the late response. Please make sure you add pre-1500 to your followed tags. This will allow you to participate in Pre-1500 discussions on G2G and will let you know when others are seeking your help.
