Almena Jane Lewis was born on July 31, 1863, in Robeson, North Carolina, United States. Her parents were Durham Lewis (1833–1913) and Rebecca Jane Regan (1841–1911). ^{[1] [2]}

Almena (18) married Luke Cornelius Powers (23) (born on August 12, 1858, in Robeson; son of John McNatt Powers and Jane Elizabeth (Barker) Powers) on May 14, 1882, in Robeson. ^{[3] [4] [5] [6]}
