Biography

Alphonse Lepage was born at Compton, Quebec on Aug. 31, 1873 and he was baptized there on Sept. 7, 1873. [1] He is a son of Damase Lepage and Desanges Croteau.

Alphonse moved to New Hampshire in the early 1890's and he established himseff at Berlin, Coos County as a barber which he did for the remainder of his working career, eventually having his own shop. Alphonse Lepage married Amanda Labossiere at Berlin, NH on July 14, 1893. [2] She is the third of nine children and the first of four known daughters of Joseph Alexandre Labossiere and Elize Poreau. Based on census records, Amanda Labossiere and Alphonso Lepage had no children. Amanda reported this in both the 1900 and 1910 US censuses.

1900 US Census New Hampshire Coos Ward 1 Berlin City ED 257 Sheet B14 Lines 81-82: Alfonse Lepage, 24 - Barber; Maude, (Amanda) Lepage - Labossiere, 22. [3] Census Date: June 8, 1900. Amanda's parents and her three youngest siblings are next door and also her brother, Napoleon and family.

1910 US Census New Hampshire. Coos, Berlin Ward 3 ED 58 Sheet B2 Lines 70-74: Fred Lepage, 37 - barber; his wife, Maud (Amanda Labossiere), 37 - no children; Alexandre Labossiere, 56 - labourer; Elise Labossier nee Poreau, 56; their grand daughter, Elizabeth, 14. daughter of their son, Napoleon and Angie Ferrari who would soon divorce [4] Census Date: April 18, 1910.

When America joined World War I in 1917, Alphonse Lepage was among those required to register for the draft. [5] Alphonse was 45 years old and it is believed he did not have to actually serve.

1920 US Census New Hampshire, Coos, Ward 4, Berlin, ED 43, Sheet 3A line 19-22: Alexandre Labossiere, 66 - labourer, pulp mill; Elise (Poreau), 66; son in law, Fred Lepage, 41, barber; daughter Amanda, 41. [6] Census Date: Jan. 9-10, 1920.

Amanda's mother, Elise Poreau died at Berlin, NH on Oct. 3, 1926. She was 73 years old.

1930 U.S. Census, New Hampshire, Coos, Ward 2, Berlin, ED 9, Sheet, 4B, Lines 80-81: Fred Lepage, 56 - Barber; Maude Lepage - Labossiere, 51. [7] Census date: April 4, 1930.

1940 U.S. Census, New Hampshire, Coos, Ward 2, Berlin City, ED 4-14, Sheet 61B, Lines 79-80: Fred Lepage, 67 - Barber, own shop; Amanda Lepage - Labossiere, 62. [8] Census date: April 19, 1940.

1950 US Census New Hampshire Coos Berlin ED 4-17 Sheet 10 Lines 20-21: Fred A. Lepage, 77 proprietor barber; Maude A. Lepage (Labossiere), 72. [9]Census Date: April 8, 1950.

Alphonse Lepage died at Berlin, NH on March 12, 1857 from complications of prostate cancer. [10] He was buried at Ste Ann Cemetery in Berlin. [11] Alphonse was 83 years old. The infomant for the infomration on Alphonse Lepage's death certificate was Mrs. Emile Olivier, foster daughter. This is Elizabeth Labossiere the niece of Alphonse Lepage and Amanda Labossiere whom they took into their home before the 1910 census when her parents marriage broke up.

Amanda Labossiere died at Berlin, NH in 1964 and she was laid to rest with Alphonse at Ste Anne Cemetery. Amanda was about 85-6 years old.
