Biography

Joseph Robert was born in 1915 to Joseph Robert Lawton, Sr and Marietta Felicite Marmillion Lawton, their first son, in New Orleans. He served in the Navy in WWII and returned to New Orleans and his job as an engineer at WWL Radio. He married Esther Bernadine Hartmann in April 1947 and the couple had 4 children. He worked for WWL his entire career becoming the Master Control Supervisor of WWL-TV when it went on the air. He worked many extra hours every week as a sound engineer for several recording companies in the New Orleans area including PanAm Films. His efforts paid for the Catholic education of his 4 children whom he loved and guided. He enjoyed playing golf on Saturday mornings and traveling with Esther and the kids. Photography was another of his talents. Bob and Esther were married 50 years. He passed away in November of 1997. ^[1]
