In his youth, he is employed by the Seminary of Quebec; he probably got the job through his uncle Jacques Godin, a brother of his mother. "

On November 4 1683 in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, he married Marguerite Bouchard, daughter of Claude and Louise Gagné. "The couple goes to Petite-Rivière-St-François in 1684, there raises a dozen children and accumulate some wealth. One finds the Lavoie of that branch, in the South and in Eastern Quebec. "

Marguerite Bouchard died in Petite-Rivière on April 6, 1731 and René follows shortly after, on 8 December of the same year. For several years, René was captain of militia in Baie-St-Paul.
