"About Gordon J. Lavoie, Co-Administrator

( submitted by Marie Rundquist... )

Gordon Lavoie, who is also a member of the Acadian Amerindian Ancestry DNA Project, is a regular contributor to the dialog on the members-only "Activity Feed" where he frequently responds, in detail, to questions about DNA haplogroups and the genealogical connections among our project members -- with references!

[While I was writing an email to him, thanking him for his kindness and well-considered responses to our project members' questions on our site, it came to me that I should ask Gordon to join our project as an Administrator. So, I followed my instincts, asked Gordon to join us, and was so delighted when he accepted and then came aboard.]

After graduating from Tignish Regional High School, Gordon (who was raised in PEI) attended the University of Prince Edward Island. Gordon completed his studies at Laval University in 1982 where he earned an honours specialization in Linguistics. Back in PEI, Gordon embarked on a 33-year journey with the Federal Government in a variety of positions, retiring from Public Safety Canada in 2015. Gordon has, and continues to volunteer time on various community organizations and projects.

He is currently [was for 2 terms] President of the "Conseil d'administration du Musée Acadien" in Miscouche [2] . Gordon is an avid and experienced genealogist and hosts a database at the Acadian Museum Research Centre which helps 300,000 plus Acadian descendants to connect with their Acadian ancestors, who arrived in Acadia from France some 400 years ago.

Most important to new and long-time project members, Gordon is "one of us" and his knowledge of our Acadian - Amerindian lineages, the haplogroups that arise from Acadian Amerindian Ancestry DNA project data, and respect for the value of DNA analysis to genealogical research, are best expressed in his professional signature:

Gordon's DNA signature: mtDNA - U6a7a1a (Lejeune - Acadian) and Y-DNA - R-BY41645 (de la Voye - French-Canadian) - or simply, a person. Signature ADN de Gordon : ADNmt - U6a7a1a (Lejeune - [Acadienne] et ADNy - R-BY41645 (de la Voye - Canadien-français) - ou tout simplement, une personne."

Sharing some information I had placed in the "Memories" box. I am placing it here in the hopes that it is viewable as 'public'. Gordon .

"My interest in our family genealogy started in 1987 (we knew practically nothing about who our ancestors were up until then) - and then I started to expand my research circa 1999 to include other Acadian and Québécois families of interest. I have devoted much more time to Acadian, AmerIndian, and Québécois genealogy since my retirement in 2015. Here is an example, circa 1999, where I needed to get some help. We all need help from time to time - and sometimes mysteries get resolved. All the best, Gordon. "**translation from the French text received by fax from Donald Léger, Allain Association 99.01.27.

"The family of Pierre Allain and Marguerite LeBlanc found themselves back in Acadia and settled in Carleton, Gaspésie, QUÉBEC. It appears that Pierre died at Brest in FRANCE around 1764. His decendants have remained in Carleton up to David's (Fabien-David's) generation; at least, I have found them in the Carleton registers : from where most of the information copied here was found.

There are two volumes (on the subject) in the Acadian archives (Moncton). I was able to consult them. These volumes are not on display and you have to know they exist to consult them.

This morning, there was only Father Anselme and myself in the archives. I took advantage of this to ask for information I was missing. Stephen White, the Director, brought me the two volumes previously mentioned. This Stephen White is a real computer! We spoke about David for a few minutes and suddenly he recalled seeing his name and where. I had only to refer to Carleton (1773 to 1850???)

I copied a bit of the information here but there is still information to be found in the registers. I am giving you what I copied."--Donald Léger / faxed by Léonard Allain."

Hello Gordon!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
