Biography

Born in 1831 in Rhode Island, the son and eldest child of Alfred Waterman Knight and Susan Carr Johnson.

He served during the Civil War, enlisting as a Private on 14 August 1862 in Company Battery C, 1st Light Artillery Regiment Rhode Island. He was absent as sick on 27 April 1863 at Hospital (Until discharge) Received a disability discharge on 09 August 1864 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He married twice:

• Eunice Amy Dewey before 1853 (based on the birth of their first known child). They were the parents of seven known children.
• Margaret Sullivan, widow of _____ Lewis married 4 October 1889 at Providence. They filed a marriage notice at Providence on 30 September 1889. That record shows that Jeremiah is age 57, born at Coventry, Rhode Island, and employed as a blacksmith. He is a widower. Margaret is age 33, a widow, and born in Providence, Rhode Island. They were the parents of two children.

Jeremiah's death record shows that he died at Seekonk, Massachusetts in 1900 and is buried at the Jeremiah Knight Lot, Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island.
