I grew up in Pretoria. I lived at 196 Lynnwood Rd, Hillcrest, Pretoria until I got married in 1973. The old thatch house was added to twice as the family grew. As a child it was on the edge of town and only the main road was tarred, all the side roads were still dirt. We had a very big erf where we kept many pets, a pony, fowl of different sorts, budgies, a lamb and duck who were besties. They would walk to the kitchen door where the duck would peck at the bell around the lambs neck to call for food. We even had a cow for a while and always at least 2 dogs. We attended Pretoria-Oos Primary School and later Menlo Park High School. University education was at Pretoria University / Tukkies. My parents build a large party-room where we had many parties and celebrations. Our pool was also a very popular gathering place for friends.
After getting married, we lived in various places including WIndhoek, Potchefstroom, Fourways (Johannesburg) and Pretoria.

I have a lot of trouble with my email, so a bit late and sorry for it, but the good news is.. I have been looking for you for the name Kloppers and where the name came from, so far I think maybe this is one of the best explanations, see: Nederlandse Familienamenbank; Bosklopper And here they also have added some info about the origin of probably one of the earliest versions of the name genealogie online; Klopper (see the part where it says: Onderscheiding in het jaar 1205). It's a bit old Dutch so hope it makes some sense, if you would like to have things translated just ask, you know where to find me eeh ;)
Will look for more and hugs from the Netherlands,
Bea :)

With reference to you questions on Martha Christina Viljoen.
All the facts I type into the Biography have a [1] [2] etc. behind it, this number in the square brackets refer to the sources in the sources section at the bottom of the Biography. Go down there and you will see a link for example "Baptism Martha Christina Viljoen 1852", hover the cursor over the link which will then display the hyperlink address where the scanned birth record of Martha Christina is stored at FamilySearch.
I am not able to trace Willem Viljoen records to his roots yet.
Shout if you need more clarification and or help.
Regards Jo
Re Willem Viljoen, I have tried to trace him from the other side as I have MyHeritage matches that suggests that he was the son of Willem Johannes and grandson of Jacobus Petrus Viljoen, but I cant find the correct link. I guess this is what our game is all about. We can keep hoping that one day it will jump out at us.
Dankie,
Groete Jo

I hope you have some time and energy to join us at the upcoming DRP challenge. We like to have you as particpant. The challenge is besides adding profiles about fun and getting to know each other better. The challenge lasts from the 30th of December to the 6th of January. It is not important if you can not be around every day. Any add is welcome. And we like to jump together at WT into the New Year! HERE you find more info.
Already wishing you a Happy New Year!
Bea, Margreet and Astrid
Did you already click on the link in the message (click on the word HERE)? It's this URL: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/961796/hoera-dutch-roots-project-challenge-from-30-till-please-join?show=961912#a961912 There you should find all the information you need or else you can ask around on that G2G post.
When we have a Challenge we have for example 4 profiles and we try to find as many relatives for that profile to connect to the tree. But we only connect them if we have proper sources for them. So for example we are searching for marriages or children from those profiles and then we try to find the right sources for those profiles. I'm not sure if you already have been playing around and sourcing your own family with the original sources? Do you have any experience finding sources in the Netherlands?
Enjoy your family tree !!!
If the literature tells the life story for your family I would think the Bios are the perfect place for it.

Hope you will have lots of fun with this awesome site.
If you need any information or help add a comment on the profile of the person By adding it to your own profile, it will only be visible to yourself. :-D
Luckily I have seen this by chance when I added your SA Project Badge :P
If the profile fall under the South African family tree the full name of the person must be entered into both the First and second space provided and the no middle name radio button must be clicked. You can then add the "Noemnaam" in the nickname space. Why? All South African documents list all names for a person and we have only government and church records to work from. We therefore keep the names as can be seen on these documents in order to rule out duplication due to the repeating of the same names in a family line and to try and help eliminate confusion in a small way. The clear answer will thus be: Use the full names (First names) as can be seen on the official documents you work with regardless of what the family has called the person. (SA Project) Last names at birth: Yes all "Tussenvoegsels" must be in lower case please, but only if the profile is listed in the South African project or Cape of Good Hope project. Other projects will inevitably have there own conventions.
If you need any more help do contact me by clicking on my name and leave a message or send a private mail.
What we do at the Dutch Roots Project is use the naming convention as it is done in the land of birth of a person. All the other ways of writting names can be put in the 'Nickname' or 'Other Name' field. The most important part is finding the original source of birth document, because that's what we use for Proper First Name and Last Name At Birth. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask. At this place: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Dutch_Roots/Naming_Convention you can find the Dutch Naming convention.

Margreet
A few handy links to get you started:
Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project ? Besides links to sources, there are help pages that might also be useful.
1. The info that partners were also 2nd cousins - with a common Grandfather, I find interesting and would like to mention on their pages - how should this be done? 2. I see the convention for no middle names in the project, am I correct in assuming this should be carried through to the current generations? I am still learning about Wiki so all input is valuable to me.

Good luck, have fun and thanks for joining !
Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.
Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far?
One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful? Most of us still have some questions after reviewing them. I'm here to answer those questions or help with issues about how WikiTree works. Click my name to send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page.
Debi ~ WikiGreeter
PS If you get a "Page Not Found" error when clicking WikiTree email links, you can often find a working version in the public comments on your profile.
Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.
Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.
Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.
Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.
Ludwig :)
