Slaves

John William Kirk owned a slave named Agnes "Aggie" b 1805 in Virginia; she died between 1880 and 1900 in San Joaquin County, CA. She and her children came west with the Kirk family to San Joaquin County, CA in 1852. Aggie took the family name of Kirk when she was freed. She helped take care of the Kirk children. Aggie was 5 foot 8 1/4 inches tall. Aggie's children were: William "Bill" Kirk b 1825, Henry Kirk, 1835-3 Feb 1909 Bellota, San Joaquin, CA; Isaac Kirk 1837-4 Dec 1920. Isaac and Henry owned 160 acres. One of four freed slave iron stakes marks her grave; unsure which one. ^[2]
