Biography
Death record: Kirk Family Cemetery, San Joaquin Co., CA: "Thomas J. Kirk of Giles Co., VA, died March 18, 1851, aged 30 years, 5 mos." Said to have been accidentally killed by an Indian.[1]
Marysville Herald, March 11, 1851: "Man shot by Indian. Our friend Capt. Ned Wakeman, formerly of the "New World", who has just returned from a tour through the entire Southern mines, informs us that on Saturday last a Mr. Kirk of Missouri, while hunting near Mountain Gate, Blue Mountian, on the road to Stockton, about thirty five miles from the mines, was shot dead by an Indian."
