Eliphalet Kingman married his second cousin once removed, Zilpha Edson, daughter of Josiah Edson and Reliance Fuller (a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrim Samuel Fuller.)[3], on Thanksgiving day, 1801. They had seven children.[1][4][5]
Lewis Kingman, writing in 1907 about his grandfather Eliphalet and great-grandfather Matthew, said:[6]
"Matthew Kingman ... associated himself with some of the enterprising neighbors and built a mill, since called Sprague's Factory. This mill at times was a saw-mill and a grist-mill combined; Grandfather Eliphalet and his brother Abel owned the mill for quite a long time; grandfather did the sawing of ship timber; his brother was a wheel-wright. Grandfather bought oak logs from every direction, sawed them into ship timber and had his boys deliver to ship builders at Scituate, Duxbury, or along the south shore where there was any call for it. He sometimes got out knees to be used in the keel of ships; these brought an extra good price and the oak timber of Bridgewater was celebrated for its toughness."
Mr. Kingman was a justice of the peace for several years, and a prominent man in the government of the town.[7]
In the 1850 census Eliphalet (age 75) was in North Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States.[8]
In the 1855 census Eliphalet (age 80) was in North Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States.[9]
Eliphalet Kingman died in 1856, aged 81 years.[1][10]
Eliphalet was a direct patrilineal third great grandson of Henry Kingman who emigrated to America from England in 1634-5. (view the relationship.)
DNA
Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing. Peter Kingman, YSearch ID D8NMD, and John Kingman, YSearch ID KFTAS, match on 37 out of 37 markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their Most Recent Common Ancestor, Henry Kingman (born 1701). John and Peter are 6th cousins (click to see the relationship).
Y-chromosome DNA test matching confirms that Gerald Kingman (FTDNA kit #214925, YSearch ID YUH8Z, and mitoYDNA Kit T10826) and John Kingman (FTDNA kit #N145956, YSearch ID KFTAS, and mitoYDNA Kit T10429) most likely share a direct patrilineal ancestor in a genealogical time frame. Their results match on 33 out of 37 markers. Family Tree DNA estimates the probability that Gerald and John share a common ancestor within the last 16 generations is 78%, and within the last 20 generations is 91%. No MRCA has yet been determined as John's patrilineal line currently terminates with Henry Kingman (1594-1667) who emigrated from England to Massachusetts in 1634/5 and is said to be of Frome, Somerset, and Gerald's patrilineal line currently terminates with George Kingman (1701-1748) of Farrington Gurney, Somerset, and probably extends to John Kingman born c1640 in Frome, Somerset.
