William was born about 1532 in Halifax, Yorkshire, the son of William Kinge. He is mentioned in his father's will 1554 as "my youngest sonne".[1]
He died in 1597 and was buried at Halifax on 24 January 1596/1597.[2] The vicar commented on his burial (quoted in Chapters on the early registers of Halifax parish church, Watson): "1596 Jan. 24 :— Willm. Kinge; Skir. M. This Willm. Kinge was a swearer, drinker, and a most filthy adulterer, amonge others hee kept longe one Dorothy Brigg a wydowe, in whose house and hand hee was stricken with sudden deathe, his last words were othes and curses, hee lyved after about 40 howers but never spake word." Watson's note - "This would be the youngest son of William King, the elder, of Skircoat, and he inherited from his father Bairstow Houses, &c., in 1554".[3]
