Woodie Wilson King, 93, of 1205 South Towers Street, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at his home.

Born July 20, 1913 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Viola Kay King. He was a longtime employee of Gulf Oil Co. and retired as maintenance supervisor at Oakwood Baptist Church. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church since 1948, served several terms as Deacon, served on two pulpit committees, taught intermediate boys’ Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, was involved in the SALT ministry, and was currently a member of the Young Men’s Bible Class.

He is survived by his wife, Wingo Hays King of the home; three sons, Woodie Parker King and his wife, Jayne of Anderson, Fred D. King and his wife, Jerrel Lynn of Anderson, and James H. “Jim” King and his wife, Janet of Simpsonville; three daughters, Elaine K. Childers and her husband, Mike of Anderson, Gloria J. Simerly of Anderson, and Susan Weddington of Cincinnati, OH; ten grandchildren, Donna Dunn, David King, Rachel Gambrell, John M. Childers, Julie Childers, CW3 Robert L. Simerly, Amy M. Martin, Michelle King, Jeremy King, and Kris King; fifteen great grandchildren also survive. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. King, six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brent Armstrong, Dr. Jack Couch, and Rev. Charles Ray Ball. Burial will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Rev. Darren Rood. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at 2p.m. Tuesday. The family is at the residence.

Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Oakwood Baptist Church, 304 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC 29625
