Biography

Rene was born prematurely in Oklahoma in 1961 to Dr. Jerry King and Colleen Wilder. The family moved quite a bit during her childhood but finally settled in Kentucky where Colleen had been raised. Rene did her undergraduate work at Kentucky Wesleyan and her graduate work at Western Kentucky University. Her coursework was in Sociology.

While at WKU, she met her first husband, Wayne, and during their brief marriage, they lived in Iowa. In 1990, Rene married her second husband, Steven. They lost two daughters, Sarah and Ruth. Their son, David, was born in 1996 and has a Master's in Mathematics.

In 2000, Rene was disabled in a horseback riding accident.

Rene has spent most of her career working in social services and currently works for a disability nonprofit.
