MILLER CO. AUTOGRAM August 16, 1923 PROMINENT TAVERN FARMER (CONRAD KEMNA) PASSES AWAY

Conrad Kemna Dead After an Illness of Several Weeks

St Elizabeth correspondent On saturday afternoon, August 4th, (1923) Conrad Kemna departed from this life. A complicated liver trouble from which the patient suffered intensely for several weeks was the cause of death. Funeral services were held at St. Lawrence Church Sunday afternoon. A Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. F. Bruch Monday morning for the repose of the soul of the departed one. He was near seventy-five years old. Deceased was born and grew to manhood in Osage county. Later he came to Miller County and was one of our most prominent pioneer citizens. He was married to Miss Mary Bode in the year 1873. She preceded him in death last January a year ago. Their union was blessed with a number of children of whom six survive as follows; Henry, Frank, Ben, Theodore, Adolph, and Mrs. Josephine Stuckenschneider. The children are all married and live in this community. Thirty grandchildren survive who have lost one who was quite fond of them all. The deceased was a resident of Miller County for nearly 50 years. In the dawn of his manhood he procurred a tract ofland on the Big Tavern about two miles east of St. Elizabeth. Through many years of persistent toil he converted this tract into one of the finest and best improved farms of this section. Then later, he bought the Bode farm adjoining the old homestead. It is now owned by the son Henry, while the home place has been divided between the sons; Theo., Adolph and Frank. Several years ago the deceased acquired the Dr. J. S. Gregory property in the village of St Elizabeth to which the couple retired. It is needless to say that the good works of this veteran leader and Christian soldier will shine forward in this community for a long time. He was a man with strong convictions, a clear vision and a big heart. He was always a staunch Catholic and was well supplied with the graces of this religion when he died.St Lawrence Cemetery Conrad Kemna 9 Dec. 1848 - 4 Aug., 1923 Mary Bode Kemna 26 Nov. 1848- 1 Feb. 1922
