Biography

Birth

Elinor Margaret Kaye was born on May 12, 1920 in Eveleth, Saint Louis, Minnesota. She was the twin sister of Howard Kaye. She was the son of Sidney Dair Kaye and Gertrude Bryant.^[1]

Parents' Divorce

A "default" divorce was granted to her parents, Gertrude and Sidney Kaye on July 27, 1936 when Elinor was 16, based on a Sheboygan Press newspaper notice.

School

Sheboygan High School Class of 1938
Elinor Kaye graduated from Sheboygan High School in the Class of 1938. On 14 Feb 1983 [when she was 62], their class reunion committee were seeking addresses for Elinor Kaye Warren and Howard Kaye. Apparently, they had lost contact with her after she moved to Woodbury, New Jersey.^[2]

In 1941, Elinor Kaye was attending Uppper Iowa University in Fayette County, Iowa. She was a member of Sigma Nu Sigma during at least her first year. She was granted a two-year degree in Elementary Education in 1941. Per Josem Diaz, Alumni Development, UpperIowa Univ, 23 Jun 2016. This was obtained by Lew Lash, who is father of Dana (Lash) Kaye, wife of Chris Kaye, son of Robert Lloyd ("Bob") Kaye, Elinor's youngest brother.

Marriage

Elinor married Airman Cadet John Courtenay ("Corky") Warren on 20 Oct 1944 at the Army Air Field Post Chapel, Merced, Merced, California.^[8]

They had 5 children: Douglas, Diane, David, Wendy, and Scott.

Death

She died on May 8, 2019 at Hearthstone Health Center, Round Rock, Williamson, Texas, just 4 days short of her 99th birthday. She had Alzheimer's disease for about 15 years. She was cremated and her urn was interred at Memory Gardens, Victoria, Texas along with her husband Corky's urn.

Timeline

2008 Sep - Moved from Victoria Texas into memory care at Loyalton assisted living facility in Austin, Texas (later Emeritus, and then Brookdale). She shared a room in the memory care unit with husband John ("Corky") Warren so they could be together.

2013 Aug 17 - After a nightime bathroom fall, Corky went to Sagebrook Health Center in Cedar Park, Texas initially for rehab and then lived there for a year before he died ("Failure to Thrive"). With her Alzheimer's disease, his wife never even realized what had happened, that he was gone for a year, and then died. She asked occasionally where he was, especially when she was moved to a smaller single room. The explanation that he was at physical therapy seemed satisfactory and it's probably better than she wasn't told about his death.

2019 May 8 - Elinor Margaret (Kaye) Warren died at Hearthstone Health Center in Round Rock, Texas from Alzheimer's disease.

1930 US Census
In the 1930 US Census, Elinor (Bryant) Kaye (9) lived at 415 Clifton Ave, Sheboygan with father Sidney (34), mother Gertrude (41), twin brother Howard (9), and her younger brothers James (7) and Robert (1 yr 4 mos), along with her maternal grandmother Margaret (Spindler) Bryant (66) who was a widow.^[9]

1940 US Census
In the 1940 census (9 April), Elinor (19) was the single daughter of Gertrude Kaye (50) at 1325 North Twelfth St. in Sheboygan, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; after her parents' divorces in 1946, she lived her brothers: Howard (19), James (18), and Robert (11), as well as her maternal grandmother Margaret Bryant (76). They also lived at the same place in 1935.^[10]

1950 US Census
In the 1950 census, Elinor M Warren (age 29), was the wife of John C Warren (29), Chemical Engineer at duPont, at 67 Walnut St in Woodbury, Gloucester, New Jersey. She was keeping house with son Douglas (4) and daughter Diane (2). The census taker initially recorded Insurance Salesman as her occupation, but that mistake was crossed out later; actually, the next door neighbor was Wendell Warrington was their Prudential insurance salesman who lived with his wife Rose and son Glenn (3).^[11]

Elinor (Kaye) Warren was mentioned in the obituary of her husband John Warren on 17 September 2013 in Victoria, Texas, who had died on 17 Aug 2013 at Sagebrook Health Center, Cedar Park, Texas ("Failure to Thrive") with vascular dementia aafter rehab for a nightime bathroom fall a year earlier.^[12]
