Biography

Rebecca (Josselyn) Nichols immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Rebecca Joslin was born about 1617, and baptized on March 27, 1617 at Ardleigh, Essex, England. Her parents were father, Thomas Josselyn and mother, Rebecca (Jude).[1]

She immigrated to New England in 1635 aboard the Increase with her parents and four of her siblings. Together they settled first in Hingham. Her oder brother, Abraham, stayed in England until after he was married in London in 1642, then he also migrated to Hingham.[1]

Rebecca married Thomas Nichols by October 13, 1638. He was baptized at Great Coggeshall, Essex, England on February 21, 1614/15; son of Walter Nichols and his wife Elizabeth Cattlyn.[2]

Her father, Thomas Joslyn, died in Lancaster, Massachusetts Bay Colony on January 3, 1660/1 and he bequeathed twenty shillings to Rebecca in his will dated May 9, 1660.[1]Her mother married (2nd) to William Kerley of Lancaster.[3]

Rebecca (Joslyn) Nichols died 22 September 1675 in Hingham.[1] A widower, her husband married (2nd) to Dorcas __?__ (unknown surname) at Hingham on September 23, 1681.[1]

Thomas Nichols died in Hingham, on November 8, 1696.[1]

The oldest child Thomas Nichols must belong to different parents. a) these "parents" were too young and b) there was another child Thomas arriving later.
