Born and brought up in Shropshire along the border with Wales - the so called Welsh Marches. An area full of history often overlooked as being too far from London for english historians and not welsh enough for welsh language academics.
The further you go back in time the more you realise the history of this area. Roman Viroconium in the 1st Century, Norman castles and Roger de Montgomery in the 11th, and the rebellion of Owain Glydwr in 1400. Is there any elusive family connections to be made?
My paternal ancestors have continuously crossed the border over the years and I also wonder how many lost the welsh language and customs in moving to Shropshire - or may be they were english settlers who moved to Wales in the middle ages.
My mother's family has strong connections with Frisby on the Wreak, Leicestershire.
I currently live in Gloucestershire (2020).

PPS. Please avoid the use of abbreviations as they can mean different things in different countries, always use the full words

A quick question - if you come across latinised variants of common names in parish registers (thinking particularly of the Shropshire Parish Registers catalogued by Mel Lockie), should you opt for 'as written' in the register or take the common english form in use at the time e.g. should Maria stay as is, or does it become Mary if that name is known to have been used in daily life in deeds etc.?
All the best
Thanks for the question
On the edit page of a profile you would put Maria in first name and Mary in the prefered name box - you would however place a note in the biography section as an explanation something along the lines
In the birth register her name is recorded as Marie, however she was known as Mary, in later document her name is recorded as Mary
For those with names with a unique spelling these can be used in the original format in the name fields, however they would come up in the suggestion feed and need to be marked as false as long as there is a source to prove the name spelling - clear as mud! You will get the hang of it take a look at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Name_Fields
All the best

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. It normally takes 24 hours from adding a test, or adding a new ancestor, or ancestor’s descendant, for WikiTree to display your name and test results on your ancestors and their descendants’ profiles for potential cousins to compare results with.
Have fun!
