Middleton Nelson Jones was born on 07 January 1847^[1][2][3][4] in Platte County, Missouri, United States^[1][2][3][4]. He was the son of Rev Randolph Jones and Sarah/Nancy Wilson.

Middleton married Emma Funkhauser Barnett^{[5][6][1][2][3][4]} on 13 October 1869^[5][6] in Clay County, Illinois, United States^[5][6].
