Biography

1776 Project
Lieutenant Batte Jones served with South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Bartholomew "Batte" Jones was born in 1755, in Amelia county, Virginia, a son of Peter Jones and Sarah Frances (Tanner) Jones.

"FALKLAND, one of the oldest homes in this section, was built by Batte Jones, before the Revolutionary War. Batte Jones, a descendant of Peter Jones, who established Peter's Point, married Margaret Ward. Their son, Peter Branch Jones, who married Martha Epes, lived here also, and later Hamlin Epes, a son of Colonel Travis Epes, made it his home. Hamlin Epes was color bearer of Company E, 3rd Virginia Cavalry.[1]

Lt. Batt Jones served as an officer, during the American Revolutionary War and is honored for his service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as Ancestor # A061923. DAR records give his wife's name as Margaret Ward. Application for membership in the Society was made by the descendants of their son, Peter Branch Jones, who married Martha Epes. [4]

never mind... (I had posted that I wasn't finding him listed as son of Peter & Sarah, citing this card, which is for their son Peter - I've deleted that now). I think I've been looking at Joneses for too long!!

While not listed on Peter & Sarah's card, he is listed as their son on his own card: Batte Jones

update - he's listed on their card (I suppose I was still looking for Bartholomew): Peter Jones, m Sarah Frances Tanner, children (named in will, listed on reverse): Elizabeth, Peter, Archer, Robert and Batte. Batte married Margaret Ward.
