Gertrude Mae Jones was the daughter of Mary Ellen Spencer and Thomas Jones. She was born on January 5, 1887 in Wayne County, Illinois.[1]
She was recorded as Girty M. Jones in the 1900 US Federal Census in the household of her father, Thomas Jones, in Arrington, Wayne Co., IN. She was 12 years old and attended school. Her birth year is recorded as 1888.[2]
According to her obituary in the Mt. Vernon Register-News, Gertrude married George Legg on Dec.13, 1905. Together, they had several children: Herschel, Goldie, Leona, Wanda, Lucille, Elmer, and Thelma.[3]
She was a member of the Sims Missionary Baptist Church.[3]
Gertrude was buried next to her husband, who preceded her in death, in Pin Oak Cemetery in Berry Township, Wayne County, Illinois.[1]
