In 1763, he appears to have been appointed one of the trustees of a settlement upon the marriage of John Evans of Bache, Llangollen, and Elizabeth Jones of Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog. The settlement names him as Edward Jones, gent, of Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog.[2]
Edward married Mary Hughes on 31 May 1767 in Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire. The witnesses were Morris Green and Jonathan Parry.[3]
The marriage licence allegation, dated 27 May 1767, recorded them as "Edward Jones of the Parish of Llansanfrayd Glyn Ceiriog in the County of Denbigh ... of the Age of thirty five Years and upwards, and a Batchelor and ... Mary Hughes of the same Parish aged twenty Years and upwards, and a Spinster". The other bondsman for the marriage licence was Richard Green of the parish of Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire.[1]
Edward was buried on 10 January 1774 in Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire. The entry in the burial register records "Edwd. Jones of Llanst. frd. Mill buried Janry. 10th".[4]
He left a will made on 17 December 1773, which described him as "Edward Jones of Glyn vechan in the parish of Llan: st. ffraid Glyn Ceiriog County of Denbigh".[5]
He disposed of his estate as follows:
his eldest son Edward -- to receive a bed, bedstead, a press and a wainscot chest
his wife -- to receive the residue of his personal estate "as long as she will remain on [his] account"
his younger child or children "if there be such" -- to receive the residue of his personal estate if his wife re-married
his brother-in-law Richard Green, Thomas Jones of Talygarth, and John Evans of Glyn vechan -- to be trustees
His will was proved on 12 September 1775 by his widow, Mary Jones.[5]
Research Notes
He was possibly the son of Howel Jones of Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire, whose will dated 27 April 1762, said: "I give and bequeath to my eldest son Edward the Mill and Kiln together with severall parcels of land called and known by their severall names of [...] Cae lan y Lleyn and Erw gerl".[6]
