Note: Left Liverpool Dec 1863 on Screw Steamer "City of London" arrived in New York 15 Jan 1864. Ship carried 219 on main deck, 36 in cabin. Listed on Main Deck were James Duggan, 34 - Weaver, his wife Eliza, 30 and three children William 11, James 9, and Ellen 4. Master of ship was Peter Conrad Petrie. NOTE: Ages and Occupation are odd, Names and approximate dates are good. Event: Psgr List (fam). 15 JAN 1864. New York, New York, United States. Note: CITY OF LONDON 1863. Built by Tod & McGregor, Glasgow in 1863 for the Inman Line<u> of Liverpool. This was a 2,560 gross ton ship, length 336ft x beam 40.5ft, clipper stem, one funnel, three masts (rigged for sail), iron construction, single screw and a speed of 12 knots. Launched in 1863, she started her maiden voyage on 8th July 1863 when she left Liverpool for Queenstown (Cobh) and New York. She started her last voyage on this route on 8th July 1869 before being rebuilt to a length of 374ft, 2,765 gross tons and fitted with new engines. She resumed Liverpool - Queenstown - New York sailings on 4th Nov.1869 and commenced her last sailing on 25th Feb.1875. Sold to the <u>Thistle Line<u> in 1878, she was re-engined and commenced London - New York voyages on 22nd July 1879. On 13th Nov.1881 she left London for New York and went missing with the loss of 41 lives.
