Biography

Richard Jones was born in Monmouthshire, Wales.

Richard was born about 1850, the son of William Jones and Margaret Griffith.

Richard Jones married Martha Morgan at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire in 1875.^[1]

In 1881, Richard was living at Linthorpe, Yorkshire with Martha and two children.^[2]

1. William Henry.
2. Margaret Annie.

In 1887, the family now including Leonard, Edward and Catherine came to Australia, arriving in Queensland on the 22nd of August 1887. Richard was 36 years and Martha was 30 years. Their children were William 8, Margaret 6, Leonard 4, Edward 2 and Catherine 1. They sailed from London on The 28th of June 1887, on the ship "Bulimba".

The Bulimba was 3000 TONS, her captain was Captain Clarke, Surgeon Dr. Collins and Matron Miss O'Reilly.

Six more children were born at Brisbane.

2. Violet Priscilla, b 1890.
3. John George, b 1893.
4. Olive, b 1895, d 1896. twin.
5. Myrtle, b 1895. twin.
6. Martha Beryl, b 1898.

Richard Jones passed away at Brisbane, Queensland in 1917 and was buried in the Toowong Cemetery.^[3]
