Biography

Jacob married his cousin Mary Jane Bailey, d/o Abner Bailey and Dorcas Jobe.

When I visited Oregon County, Missouri about 1968/1969, I visited several of his descendants in the area and was told this story:

"1860's -During the lawless time after the civil war, renegades were raiding Oregon Co., and found that Jacob had a fifty cent gold piece. Jacob fought to keep his gold piece but the raiders robbed him and hung him to a tree. The renegades left in a hurry. Mary came out of the root shelter and cut the rope. Although he had rope marks around his neck, he lived for more than 30 years."

Though Jacob lived and died within 2 miles; the counties and even states changed during this time. I've tried to list the area as it was known at that particuliar time. By the way, I have visited this area a few times and been to the Old Jobe Cemetery. He and Mary had several children who died as infants --especially the boys. The children who died young at buried at the Old Jobe Cemetery in Oregon Co, Missouri.
