Biography

D/o Abner Bailey and Dorcas Jobe. She married her cousin.

1860's -During the lawless time after the civil war, renegades were raiding Oregon Co., and found that Jacob had a fifty cent gold piece. Jacob fought to keep his gold piece but the raiders robbed him and hung him to a tree. The renegades left in a hurry. Mary came out of the root shelter and cut the rope. Although he had rope marks around his neck, he lived for more than 30 years.

Died January 2, 1899, Jacob Jobe, aged 77 years. Mr. Jobe was born and raised within 2 miles of where he died; has been a resident of this Co., all his life. The post office of Job was named for him. His wife preceded him to the Glory Land 17 years ago; since then he and his next oldest son, C.C. Jobe, a bachelor, have kept house up to the time of his death. He leaves besides C. C., 4 boys and 2 girls all married and their families to mourn his demise. The SM joins in sympathy with the many bereaved relatives and friends. [SM 5 Jan 1899] 1996 Cem book, d. 3 Jan 1899
