Her ancestors include George Jeffrey, a Nehantic, and Elizabeth Morgan, whose mother was Montauk. The extended Jeffrey-Condol-Beman family tended to intermarry and often lived in groups, which helped them maintain their NA traditions through the generations. From 1840-1890, Indian was not an option in the census records. Alice self-identified as Indian in the census records of 1905, 1910, and 1920. Her other ancestors were of European and African ancestry.

I was following the line of her g'g'grandfather George Jeffrey (Jeffrey-815), who was Nehantic. Since Alice identified as Indian on the census records, I thought that warranted a Tribal identification, not just NA ancestry. However, I do find the tribal history, merging, and naming confusing, so please assign her however you think best. Also, her g'g'g'mother (the mother of Betsy Morgan) was Montauk. Perhaps Alice may have used both tribal affiliations?
The extended Jeffrey-Condol-Beman family tended to intermarry and often lived in groups, which likely helped them maintain their NA heritage through the generations. At the same time, some of the family married people of African or European descent, and their descendants did not always identify as NA. Those people I have categorized as being of Nehantic and/or Montauk descent, depending on who their ancestors were. I hope that's ok.
Thanks for the response. Given the mix happening by this generation, I wonder if the Heritage sticker might be more appropriate? Try this (in double curly brackets):

I do see that some of the censuses enumerate this person as Indian, but where does the tribal association come from? Thanks.
