Donella June Jackson was born on June 15, 1896 in Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States, daughter of Andrew George Jackson (1868–1959) and Luna Mae Chauvin (1867–1927).

Dolly married Guy Vernon Rhoads on 27 June 1922 in Louisiana. Their son was

Dolly died on April 10, 1994 in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky, United States, aged 97.

She taught school in Terrebonne Parish as a young woman. At the time of her marriage in 1922, she was a supervisor for the telephone company in New Orleans. She started her married life in Pinckneyville, Illinois, and came to Lexington in 1936. She was a member of Berea Christian Church, where she particpiated in the Ladies Aid and Prime Timers organizations, and belonged to the Donerail homemakers.^[2]
