Biography

Andrew George Jackson was born 2 January 1868, on Bayou Black in Terrebonne, Louisiana, son of John Campbell Jackson and Sarah Ann Stroud.

Andrew (age 23) married Lula Mae Chauvin (age 22) on 19 June 1889, in Houma, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Their children were:

(age six months) lived at home with them. George, Edna, and Walter attended school. They lived next door to Andrew's widowed mother, Sarah (age 59), his brothers, Isham (age 30), John E. (age 21), and his sisters, Marry (age 27) and Sarah (age 24). Andrew's first cousin, John Stroud (age 21) lived with his mother.^[8]

In 1910, Andrew (age 42) lived with his wife of 20 years, Lula (age 42) in Police Jury Ward 8, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Andrew and Lula were the parents of nine living children. Andrew was a mail carrier. He owned his home at 456 Bayou Black Road free of mortgage. Living with them were their sons, George C. (age 19, swamp laborer, Ralph W. (age 16), swamp laborer, Andrew N. (age 8), Stanely H. (age 5), Isham B. (age 3); and their daughters, Edna M. (age 18), Donella (age 14), Mary M. (age 12), and Annie L. (age 11).^[9]

In 1920, Andrew (age 52) lived with his wife, Lula Mae (age 52) in Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Andrew was a farmer. Living with them were their sons, Andrew Jr. (age 20), Stanley (age 15), Bernie (age 12); their daughter, Annie L. (age 18), and Andrew's niece, Pearl (age 2). They lived next door to their married son, Ralph (age 26), and to Andrew's brother, John (age 40). ^[10]

In 1930, Andrew (age 61) lived with his second wife, Evaline (age 61) in Police Jury Ward 08, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Andrew was a farmer. Andrew's niece, Pearl (age 12) and Andrew's widowed brother, Isham (age 60) lived with him and Evaline.^[11]

In the 1940 census Andrew (age 72) was the married head of household in Ward Eight, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. He lived with his second wife, Evelina (age 71). His single son,Bennett (age 32), lived with them.^[12]

Andrew's second wife, Evelina Scheffler Jackson (age 86) died on 29 January 1957 in Houma, Terrebonne, Louisiana.^[13]

Andrew (age 91) on 16 February 1959 in St. Mary, Louisiana, United States, ^[14]was buried in Bayou Black Community Cemetery, Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[15]
