William Jack was born before 24 June 1787 in Temple, Midlothian, Scotland, son of Andrew Jack and Barbara Robertson.^[1]

William married Helen Balks on 8 December 1809 in Liberton, Midlothian, United Kingdom. ^[2][3]

Together William and Helen had 8 known children including:

Research Notes

Ref. William's death date. Most trees have a death date for William, as 31st Oct 1861, in Edinburgh. The address given on the Edinburgh Cemetery record for this William is Potters Row, Edinburgh. ^[12]. There was a William Jack residing in Potters Row, Edinburgh in 1841 with a wife named Mary and a daughter Catherine born about 1820. so I dont think it is the same William. no second marriage can be found and no birth of a daughter Catherine to be able to confirm, this Catherine would overlap with Helen Balk's children, she could of course be a step-daughter though. There is another death for a William Jack in 1840, also Edinburgh, but the Infirmary/Hospital.^[13], so this William could been living in any of the Midlothian parishes. Sadly this record has no further details, of usual address, parents, or children, so it's not possible to confirm that one either. however it may make sense as to why William can't be found in 1841 or 1851 living with or close to his children.
