The official >registered< coat of arms for the Boudreau family of Acadia. From the Canadian Heraldic Authority on 2 February 2000. For >all< descendants of Michel Boudreau of Acadia.

In the 15th century, only royalty and some in the bourgeois class had coats of arms. None of the Acadian pioneers had coats of arms. Today, anyone can apply to the Canadian Heraldic Authority in Ottawa for a coat of arms. It was agreed upon at one of the general meetings of the Boudreau Family Association in New Brunswick, along with the Canadian heraldic authority, or la Société héraldique du Canada, who was asked for a coat of arms that would represent the Acadian Michel Boudreau from La Rochelle, France and all of his descendants in Acadia. A grant of arms was official on 2 February 2000 for all of Michel Boudreau de l'Acadie descendants.

L'association des Boudreau, Dieppe, New Brunswick, Grant of Arms, on February 2, 2000 Vol. IV, p. 5, by the Canadian Heraldic Authority:

Blazon Arms

Per pale Azure and Gules an anchor Argent between dexter the star of Acadie and sinister a pair of scales Or the anchor ensigned by a crown set with eleven finials flory also Or; Motto

MAJORUM FIDEI ET VIRTUTI; Symbolism Arms

Blue, white and red are the colours of Acadia’s flag. The star of Mary, the Stella Maris, represents hope and is the main symbol of Acadia. It also stands for the Acadian heritage of the Boudreau families. The red also refers to the arms of Charles de Menou d’Aulnay de Charnisay, Seigneur of Port-Royal in Acadia, who bore Gules a bend Or. The anchor illustrates the historical links of the Boudreaus with the sea. The crown topping the anchor recalls the colony of Port-Royal where the first ancestor, Michel Boudreau, and his wife, Michelle Aucoin, settled c.1639. The pioneer couple, so to speak, “dropped anchor” in the New World to establish a family. The crown is decorated with eleven fleurs-de-lis representing their eleven children. The fleurs-de-lis also symbolize French presence in Acadia. The scales recall the function of judge exercised by Michel Boudreau as lieutenant-general for civil and criminal affairs at Port-Royal. Motto

This Latin phrase means "By the fidelity and courage of our ancestors".
