Update: After another pretty huge health setback regarding my heart in April 2023, I had to take time off for most of the year. Came back, overdid it, need to take another break. I am sorry and sad, hope I am not making anyone's lives harder. My hair, nails and teeth dissolve now, I have no insurance, so I can only pray and rest. Best, AmyLynn.
My roots are in Scotland, England, Germany and Sweden. Both of my parents have DNA tests, not something I'm able to afford, but having theirs, 'probably not likely to have any surprises! One of my Grandparents adopted his child, so I have two trees, and have not met that part of my biological family. Ask me questions, if you're interested. I've been here a while and no one has talked with me, which is weird, as previously I never met a stranger. I have 128 University hours in undergrad, my Major was called "Applied Ministry, Youth Emphasis", which would have been a B.A. if I hadn't been in a car on the way to sing at a tiny, beautiful little church south of Norman Oklahoma when the 19 year old driver of the car I was in slammed on the brakes in the middle of I-44, at the bottom of a bit of a hill. I still vividly remember turning and seeing the face of the driver behind us, and my last thought was "He's going to feel so bad, and it's not his fault, help him, Lord". Then I woke up on the road. The rest has been things that just don't fit neatly into boxes. Especially when tired. How do so many people have published memoirs? :0) I miss people. We all talk at each other on the internet, I miss faces. Hopefully will see some soon, it's weird that I survived 20- something years stuck in bed, but the whole Covid Lockdown thing was infinitely worse. Maybe you can help me figure that out.

Thanks for all your work this month and in 2022 for the Sourcerers Project! Happy New Year!!!
Hi AmyLynn. Thanks for your efforts in improving our shared tree.
AmyLynn, thanks for your efforts to improve our shared tree.
I also have multiple Hunt relatives in my various lines attached to Halifax County, Tennessee and Kentucky. Some of them are also very mixed up. If you wish to connect please do so.

My Hunt research hits a brick wall of many William Hunts in Virginia in the 1600s, so that sounds great, I've been stuck for years. I built trees for my parents at Ancestry if you're over there, or I can send an invitation. Thank you for writing, I hope you see this, I can't ever send mail here for some reason :)
Sandy added your name to the team page & noted that your interest was in your Virginia ancestors. Any particular county or counties in Virginia?
Give me a holler if you have any questions about the team (or the stickers).
Cheers, Liz
I'm kind of stuck as far as ancestors, I don't yet feel super strong in 17th century research yet. But finding *living* cousins was my original hope when I came here, so maybe?
We just started a new project on WikiTree: the Appalachia Project and we would love to have you join us. Since you are already working on profiles in Appalachia it wouldn't add to your WT work. Just a sticker and a category, here and there. To join, review the Project page, pick a regional team (or teams) and answer the G2G Membership post.

Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the July 2022 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to an amazing 1st place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 87,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!! Here is The Wrap Up information

Next Thon: Source-A-Thon in the Fall (tbd) and WikiTree Day on November 5, 2022
Thanks for your contributions to the monthly Sourcerers Challenge. We appreciate your work!
Look in the biography section for unsourced between double brackets, once you add sources you would remove this so it does not keep showing up on the unsourced list. If you adjust the year of birth to match what you have in the bio, you could also take off the other template about the date of birth.

Thank you for your sourcing contributions in May!
The Nordic Project is performing its bi-annual check-in with our project members. You are receiving this message, because we have not heard from you since you joined the Nordic Project.
We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. If you have not yet joined a team, please let us know which team(s) you would like to participate in. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Nordic_Project_-_Country_Sub-Projects
We are close to launching our new Nordic Trail. The Nordic Trail will be focusing on our new project members. We will be teaching them the core skills needed to contribute to the Nordic Project's goals – which are to make every Nordic profile the best it can be. We are looking for Trail Guides to guide the Explorers through the Nordic Trail. We need guides for each Nordic country before we can begin the Trail. If you feel you can help by becoming a guide, please contact Missy with the country or countries in which you would be able to guide. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Nordic_Project_-_Nordic_Trail_Team
We thank you for all you do to help the Nordic Project and are a bit curious about how you recently have been contributing to the project mission and goals. We are asking because it would to help us gauge our success and address our weaknesses. On behalf of the project, we would really appreciate it if you would take the time to respond by emailing Missy directly. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Missy Berryann and T.L. Koehnline Co-Leaders, The Nordic Project
I joined hoping to learn about our Swedish ancestors, then realized since I don't have much knowledge, I'm probably not able to help. I'd still love to learn, very willing to help where I can, but definitely a "newbie" in this area! So whatever helps and is not a burden for you. ALH will cc [ed] to Missy :0)
PS - when I click send private msg to Missy, my screen goes all white. Is this just me & my tablet?

1. Begin your family tree by entering everything you know about your family
2. When you get to someone you don't know about, ask for help. At the top of your profile page is a tab for Ask A Question. If there is a profile for that person, give the ID. Tell us what you have already know, where you have already looked, and what you hope to learn. Give your question a title to attract the attention of people who might know the answer. The computer will suggest tags that will help direct your question to the right people.
3. When your tree has grown far enough, you will find that there is already a profile for one of your relatives. So you can CONNECT to it instead of adding a whole new profile. If this profile is connected to the one big tree, you're golden.
4. The Connection finder is sort of a parlor trick. Everybody on the one big tree is connected by either blood or marriage to everyone else. When you've got yourself connected, you will be able to see how you are connected to St. Patrick. (Not descended from, obviously, because he did not have any children.) You can also check the Relationship Finder to see if you are related (by blood) to anyone else in the tree. But it may take a while to get to yourself into the one big tree. Start by working on your own family. Have fun!

[deleted me having a panic attack and being whiny about it]
Joyce, I *have* only been working on my family here. The question I asked was about a specific member of my family who is Irish. I don't, frankly, care about the connection thing. It seems silly to me, I'm related to Johnny Cash 's dog walker? That doesn't matter. I feel adrift. I want to find living family, and I want to preserve history. I don't think I can do either of those things here, unfortunately. [Ruh roh. I was so fun! <irony font> ]
The Sound of Music reference is appreciated. I'm also a film historian.

The question in one sentence- this will be the headline that people see first. You want it to catch the eye of people who might know the answer. Category-if you want to know something like "who is this person's wife?" the category will be Genealogy Help. If you want to know something like "how do I ask a question?", the category will be Wikitree Help. Then there is a larger box for you to explain more. Enter the Wikitree ID if you have one. If not, leave blank. The computer will suggest tags to help get your question to the right people. I did not know how to ask a question until recently. Now I have been asking them left and right.
I have so many great people to add to this project, but I couldn't find you again. So now I feel more dumb, and don't know if I'll be very helpful. I definitely have direct ancestors who have been here 400 years, Hunts, Waldos and Rogers...es :0) So I'm not sure what to do next. I'll look around a bit.
I'd say a good starting point would be to fill out your ancestors that are from Virginia till you meet up with profiles already on Wikitree, then turn to adding any sources you have to support the Virginia tree.
We appreciate any contributions you can make to grow our shared tree.
I sent a private message to your email too.
Thanks.
-William
My Great Uncle Victor E. Waldo Jr was a fantastic Genealogist, way before any internet sites existed, but so much of his work is online, which makes me very happy. So maybe some info for CCW is from Buzz. I met that Clyde's son, also called Clyde, in the early 1980s at my Grandparents' house. He was a joy to be around. He passed away not long after, so I'm very grateful that we dropped in that day.

Thanks self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.
It looks like the United States Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.
Do you have any questions? Let me know by using the "reply" link under my comments or by clicking my name to visit my profile. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message. . I'm happy to help! :-)

Thank you for joining us! I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. How do you like WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How To Pages been helpful or have they left you with questions? Great to see you are already connected to the tree. I see you posted a question in your genealogy section. The beste place to search for present profiles is via the name box on top. Or did you mean something else?
Please let me know if you have any questions about WikiTree. To contact me, log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page. It's really is great to have you on board.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Feeling overwhelmed is understandable. Starting with your ancestry can be a big thing. Trust me, it gets easier along the way. I see you have already filled a lot of your branch of the tree, which is great. It is normal to start with the oral history, told by people still living. They have a lot of information, and the stories behind them. The further down the line, the harder it gets to get thrustworthy oral history. Then the written documents become more and more important. Those documents usually are available in online archives. Searching those archives takes a bit of time and getting used to.
My advice would be to start with the websites in the RootsSearch. Then start with a person you trust the data for and try to locate the documents. A census, a birth certificate. Take your time. Sometimes you are lucky and find it right away, sometimes you need to use different spelling variations, sometimes there is just nothing.
I understand there can be a connotation with some words, but please don't let that scare you off. "It is just a document". The story behind it can be interesting, nice, unpleasant or any other word.
Sourcing with real documents is important though. Oral history is very often flawed by old memories, or partly told stories. The documents can at least prove the story is right in a sense. If you need to find immigration documents, then WikiTree is a lovely place with people from all over the world.
I have left some pointers at John Roy Wilson Sr. (1889-1976) as a starter.
If you would like some one to help you more, we have a great team of mentors that are great in helping people. Please let me know if you would like to contact one so he/she can spend a little time with you to get things sorted.

You line is picked up in "The Continuation of the Waldo Genealogy" (by Charles Waldo) with Clyde Canada Waldo a postmaster from Armstrong, Texas.
laptop. I grew up with my Waldo cousins. They were my best friends, & we have so many photos, etc. I was also fortunate enough to have my Great-Grandmother (Georgia Imogene Rogers Waldo) in my life until I was almost 29, so we had five generations at one time. That was very special. I'm looking forward to learning more.

I'm just blown away with the kindness and great communication here, thank you so much again!
I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.
It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Happy tree climbing
Pam ~ WikiTree Greeter
PS Did you know that Tags become clickable links to others researching those names, or places, that you are interested in. They also control what is included in the family activity emails from WikiTree, and you can have up to twenty tags.
I worked on a shared public tree on another site over the past year, and while there were some problems there, the overarching things are exactly what you mentioned - feeling really connected to people. That means so much to me... I've been disabled since I was 23, have spent most of that time in bed, feeling pretty cut off from the world, so this has been such a gift. I received a big package of mail yesterday, my Father's cousin sent some family tree things she worked on years ago. So that was great and hopefully I'll have more people to add. Thank you and everyone for the warm welcome, and I will definitely read the New Member page. Thank you so much for the link.

I'm so glad that you found WikiTree! I'm sure that you're going to love it as much as I do. The How-To pages are great and have a wealth of helpful info. I'm happy that you're already making connections through your Waldo branches, awesome!
Our G2G community is really lovely too, we love to welcome new guests, solve mysteries and support each other, don't be shy to introduce yourself if you want to. When asking questions about an ancestor it always helps to have their profile as up-to-date as you can and to attach the URL of the relevant person with your G2G question.
What a lovely package you received yesterday! I'm sure that's going to have you down a rabbit hole for the next few days. How exciting! Sometimes photo's and documents are great to store in Free Space Pages. Free space pages are like profile pages but for things instead of people. The great thing about free space pages is that you can put clickable links to them in the bio's of your ancestors, and/or you can also insert the images into your ancestors bio's too by copying the supplied text from the free space page. After you're comfortable with the How-To pages I thought you'd maybe find this page about free space pages handy.
If you're looking for a great community who are interested in the same things you are you should consider joining a project. Wikitree has loads of great projects, they can be found by hovering your mouse over the word "Find" in the little menu bar at the very top right, lower your mouse down the dropdown list that appears and click on "projects". The next page will load with a list of projects, and a description, when you find one that you like click on its clickable heading and you will be taken to their project page which will tell you more about how to join, and more about the project. Many project pages also have links to resources which can be very helpful. Waldo Lincoln is covered by the Notables Project, you can tell this by scrolling down to the very bottom of his page and having a look where it says: "Categories: Massachusetts, Notables | Notables ". To see what projects other WikiTree'ers are involved in look at their profile pages and click on badges.
I hope this all helps, and anytime you have questions don't be shy to ask, we love to help wherever we can.
Have a super day, Pam
