When he was younger he annoyed a horse. The horse kicked him in the jaw and broke it. Eddie's jaw was never reset and he went through life with a crooked jaw.

Edward was a prisoner of war. Uncle Eddie did the march from Poland to Italy, which he did not like to talk about as it was dreadful, which caused him to lose a toe from frost-bite.[1] He was held at Stalag VIII-B Lamsdorf which was a German Army prisoner of war camp, later renumbered Stalag-344, located near the village of Lamsdorf (now Łambinowice) in Silesia. [2]

Edward married Olga Elizabeth Christensen (1919 - 1992) on May 9, 1946 in South Africa.

Olga had three children from a previous marriage and Eddie raised them as his own.

Edward died on January 21, 1983 in Germiston, South Africa aged 64. The cause of death was myocardial infarction.
