Benjamin was the son of Sarah (nee Clark) and Samuel Hulett. Both of his parents died only a few months apart in July of 1811 when Benjamin was an infant. Some stories suggest that his mother died giving birth to him. For a few months, his eldest sister Hannah, who was but ten years old herself, tried to maintain the family with what provisions and knowledge they had. However, in February of 1812, guardianship of all the Hulett children was given to John Richardson and Flavius Curtis. On May 31, 1835, Benjamin married Camelia Aurora Hoyt. Their children were William Mason, Julius (died young), Sarah Minerva, Florinda "Flora", Malina Elzira and May Arvilla. The family homesteaded on fine timberland in Elk County, Pennsylvania. In the early winter months of 1848, their home burned. In the efforts to save lives and property, Benjamin's feet were frostbitten so badly that he never recovered and died as a result of it. Probate records were finalized in September of 1848. ~ biography by Terry Beth Barnes
