Communication Preferences:
I am interested in communicating with
anyone who shares the same ancestors.
Here is my family tree.
We still need a male Bartlett or Bartlit who has or will Y-DNA test, who is a descendant of William Bartlett aka William Bartlit (abt. 1671 England? [or Scotland?] - 10 Oct 1741 (aged 69–70) Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bartlett-3244. Our branch has not had a living Bartlett male since the early 1950s.
Y-DNA Haplogroup: as yet unknown (still need a male Bartlett descendant to test, as our branch has not had a living Bartlett male since early 1950s). :-(
Our BARTLETTs were often also recorded (in, say the 1700s in particular) under the variant spelling, BARTLIT. and sometimes BARTLET. The immigrant ancestor was said to have been from England--or Scotland, according to one family legend (though if so, probably of English heritage)--and to have arrived in New Haven colony in Connecticut about 1694. He settled in East Guilford (now Madison) and died in East Middletown (now Portland, Connecticut). From Connecticut, descendants migrated into Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, etc.
We still need a direct-line Bartlett or Bartlit-surnamed male descendant for Y-DNA testing, as we have no Bartlett males in the immediate family nor cousins that we are aware of. Or we need to identify a Bartlett male from another branch who has already tested. Please contact me if you may be or know of one!
Y-DNA Haplogroup (Y-DNA 111 tested): Q-M242 from FamilyTreeDNA test taken by cousin, James Huff, FTDNA Kit No. 870588. A related group may be Q-L275 (from a different person who tested, with whom we share the same 3rd great grandfather). Many other tests of apparently related Huffs show Q-YP730 (from others tested who seem to share ancestry from perhaps an as yet undetermined 5th or even farther back great grandfather).
This HUFF family settled in southwest Virginia by or before about 1780, having migrated there from Loudoun County, Virginia, where our oldest known ancestor resided during the decade or more prior to the 1780s. The southwest Virginia area where the family settled changed county names multiple times, as well as being near borders of other counties. The area where they settled with other Huffs--was back then sometimes called Head of Little River or (near) Bent Mountain (part of the actual mountain range, not the current community called Bent Mountain in Roanoke County that was settled after the Civil War). That Bent Mountain community is now part of the Copper Hill community in Floyd County, Virginia (formed in 1831). It had previously been a part of Montgomery County (formed in 1776), and other counties prior to that. The family moved to southwest Virginia from Loudoun County, Virginia, with evidence of being in the Loudoun County area by or before about the 1770 time period. Before that?...unknown. Pennsylvania? Maryland? New Jersey?
Around or before 1790, several of the children began migrating...to areas that nowadays would be Fentress County, Tennessee and Clinton County, Kentucky (these had predecessor county names). By and into the 1820 time period, some family members migrated to counties in and around Monroe County, Indiana, and to various other states.

Your help has been invaluable. The things I learned from you a few short weeks ago may have otherwise taken a year or more to figure out on my own. This is no longer a daunting place.
I see wikitree with more understanding which is what most people want. Thank you also for your patience and kindness.
Well, I created a new William Huff to get corrections made you and Billy suggested. Billy also created a new William Huff, now we have to merge. Is this the final change?
I do see the messages on the William Huff profile, but have other pressing obligations at the moment, but I will check out your & Billy's comments or if you or he want to correct be my guest! Later

Information added by someone for Abigail on William Huff's profile needs to me moved to the William I just created.
I'm sure this makes no sense, but let me know if I need to do more.
Thanks, Later, Jan
